
A perfectly generated document can look strangely artificial. The page is pure white, every line sits at an exact angle, the text edges are razor-sharp, and the lighting is identical from corner to corner.
A real scan rarely looks that clean.
Even a well-maintained scanner introduces small visual irregularities: a warm paper cast, slight page rotation, softened text, faint sensor noise, compression artifacts, or a shadow near the edge of the scanner bed. Reproducing those details can make a digital image, mock document, archival graphic, or presentation prop feel as though it passed through a physical scanner.
The challenge is restraint. Heavy filters tend to create a damaged photocopy rather than a believable scan. A convincing result usually comes from layering several mild effects while protecting the document’s readability.
Start With a Clean, High-Resolution Source
Scan effects work best when the original image is already well composed.
